AvL Technologies Wins $31 Million Deal to Supply WGS-Certified Satellite Terminals to Poland

AvL Technologies signed a $31 million contract with Polish defense supplier GISS Sp. z o.o. to deliver WGS-certified tactical satellite communications terminals for Poland's Ministry of National Defence. The agreement, announced September 8, 2026, ties Polish forces to the U.S. military's Wideband Global SATCOM constellation and expands the Asheville, North Carolina, manufacturer's presence in NATO defense markets.

The award follows Poland's accelerated military modernization efforts across Eastern Europe. Poland was allocated 43.7 billion euros through the European Union's Security Action for Europe program, funding that targets air and missile defense systems, anti-drone capabilities, military mobility, and secure communications infrastructure along Eastern NATO borders. The terminal contract aligns with the country's investment in sovereign defense readiness and border security.

Under the agreement, AvL will supply 2.4-meter trailer-mounted driveaway satellite terminals to support tactical communications for the Polish Armed Forces. Each terminal combines a high-rigidity carbon-fiber reflector with automated antenna-positioning systems for rapid signal acquisition in harsh field environments. The ruggedized trailer units are certified for simultaneous operation across X-band and military Ka-band spectrum. X-band links provide reliable signal penetration through adverse weather and atmospheric interference, while military Ka-band supplies high-throughput bandwidth for dense data transport, real-time video surveillance feeds, and secure tactical voice communications.

WGS certification verifies that the terminal hardware complies with military standards for the United States Department of Defense Wideband Global SATCOM constellation, allowing Polish forces to securely interface with U.S. and allied space assets during multinational operations. The procurement builds on AvL's multi-band terminal architecture designed for rapidly deployable military command posts.

The companies framed the deal as addressing growing requirements for resilient, allied-interoperable satellite communications within NATO. According to the executives, the partnership combines AvL's engineering and manufacturing capabilities with GISS's local integration and field support infrastructure in Poland, supporting Poland's stated push for secure, resilient communications across current and future missions.

Production of the 2.4-meter trailer-mounted units will proceed at AvL's main manufacturing facilities in Asheville. Initial deliveries and field integration are scheduled to support Polish military units throughout upcoming force modernization phases.
